The last few days in Trinidad have flied by and what was supposed to be a daily blog is now looking more like a weekly blog! Nonetheless, it has been an extremely productive week! #ThankGod
What did I do? Who did I see?
- Dropped off my track at various radio stations.
- Met up with old and new friends.
- Worked with “SELECTA J” on his first project under my management.
- Meetings with DJs, artistes and producers such as David Millien of “Milbeatz” who produced the hit track “Bend Over” by Buhwamoder for Trinidad Carnival 2011.
- I randomly met Destra’s sister. #LOL
- Worked on “I Love College 2.0.” (May 13th - 15th in Barbados.)
Exhausted from the day before I woke up around midday and hustled to get ready to go into town. This was my firs solo mission in Trinidad and I was able to go into town and come back to my apartment in St. Augustine without any hassles. I was really impressed with the Maxis - air-conditioned, no squeezing, equipped with tissue dispensers and the radio volume was set just right, loud enough to enjoy but quiet enough that if your preferred to listen to your MP3 player you wouldn’t still hear the Maxi’s radio.
Today I had Trini KFC for the first time in eight years and it was really good! I am told the branch I went to in Port of Spain which is open 24hours a day is the outlet that sells the most KFC in the world! KFC prices in Trinidad were a lot cheaper than in Barbados and other Caribbean countries and even cheaper than KFC in the U.S.A. Fast food and food on a whole is very cheap and of a wide variety in Trinidad and I’m taking full advantage! (LOL)
In the night it was all about “Bumperville” in St. James which was my first cooler fete. For those who are not familiar with a cooler fete, which are extremely popular in Trinidad, the concept is that your crew brings a cooler filled with drinks that you bought and you pay to get inside the venue and drink the drinks from your cooler. There is still a bar for those who decide not to bring a cooler or run out of drinks.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself even though I am told this was a “mellow fete” in comparison to other Trini fetes. The DJs were alright and performances by JW and Blaze, Super Jigga TC (Speaker Box), Shal Marshall and Cassi (Town Ting) kept the crowd entertained. Highlights included a Vybz Kartel remix by JW and Blaze making fun of the young man from south who was caught in the act with a goat. The remix lyrics were like: “You ah me goateeeeeeee, me no want you in no rotiiiiiiii!” (LOL)
All in all it was a fun night w/ Selecta J from Timeless Int’l and other friends and another marvelous day in Trinidad!
Persons have being complaining that I didn’t keep them updated on the US leg of my “Meet The Meat Man” PROMO Tour and as a result I have set up a Tumblr account to ensure the same thing doesn’t happen in Trinidad. (Shout out to Jimesha and Kemi)
Anyways now down to the blog! :)
I reached Piarco International airport a little after 9:00am (Friday Jan. 14th) completely tired from getting no sleep the night before and the hassles of an early morning flight. However, all tiredness completely disappeared as soon as I cleared immigration and it hit me - I was in Trinidad!
I was utterly impressed with Trinidad’s arrival duty free area which sported a wide variety of duty free liquor stores. I immediately bought a sim card (Digicel ofcourse) and I was in business! I had to wait on my dear friend Kemi to pick me up for a few minutes but with my BlackBerry and comfortable seats at the airport I hardly noticed.
Immediately after leaving the airport a ‘doubles stop’ was necessary and I still don’t like doubles! (Don’t kill me!) The rest of the day was spent touring town, West Mall, etc., calling up friends and the likes!
In a few word - so far, I LOVE TRINIDAD! <3
